Abstract : Cadmium sulphide (CdS) thin films as the window material for solar cells were fabricated by two deposition procedures; chemical bath deposition (CBD) and electrodeposition (ED). The grazing incident x-ray diffraction (GIXRD) analysis shows that the fabricated electrodeposited CdS (ED-CdS) and chemical bath deposited CdS (CBD-CdS) are predominantly hexagonal. The scanning electron microscope (SEM) images of the ED-CdS films indicate the existence of spherical features with various sizes. The ED-CdS film surfaces indicate more uniform coagulates compared to that of CBD-CdS. Photoelectrochemical (PEC) cell studies indicate that CdS materials grown by CBD and ED techniques are all n-type. Additionally, higher short circuit (ISC) current and flat band potential (Vfb) were observed for ED-CdS films compared to CBD-CdS. The results suggest superior electrical properties of ED-CdS compared to CBD-CdS.
